Seoul city life

Living in Seoul is quite different than living in Finland.

I moved to Seoul few months ago for exchange and here is some experiences so far.

My usual day consists of studying, going to the gym, eating outside, hanging out with friends from dorm and exploring the city with them.

Student life in Korea is quite chill for me since I got lucky with my course choices, having good professors and classes. Most classes are lectures and  they only last for one hour. Korean students spend a lot of time studying all day everyday at school or study cafes.

I live in a dorm with people from all around the world and I am really glad I chose to live there instead of finding other place to live. I have made so many friends through the dorm and I feel like it would be hard otherwise. Especially hard is to make Korean friends since they are quite introverted (I am saying this as a Finn) and they are quite shy to speak English even though they all have the skills for it. Of course there are exceptions but for now most of my friends are from other places than Korea.

I go to the gym as a hobby and I was happy that the dorm provides small but efficient gym for me to use. It is where I spend quite some time here as well. Korean people seem to be fit but not too big or muscular. Most of them are quite skinny. It is also because the beauty culture is huge here, making everyone have huge pressure on their looks and so even plastic surgery is quite common here.

I also go hiking every now and then to the beautiful mountains next to the city. It is really nice and needed break from the busy and packed city life. It is also quite popular hobby here and I recommend it to all who visit!

One other thing that I recommend is going to the local palaces as they give nice image of the local history and are quite beautiful buildings and sites. It is common to rent Hanbok, which is historical outfit and go spend some time in the place. In fact you get a free entrance if you have traditional outfit on.

Clubbing is also quite popular and it is quite fun. Also it is common to go eat food all night and drink at the same time, ordering different meals during the night. And finally people enjoy to go to Karaoke rooms which can be rented for your party for some hours and they sell drinks and snacks.

Here are some insights so far that I wrote some time ago but forgot to post so Ill post now.

Kamsahamnida!
