Greetings from Ghent!

A Finnish Physiotherapy Student in Ghent

Internship

During my exchange, I completed an internship in Ghent, Belgium in two different settings; an orthopedic ward and an amputee rehabilitation center. Both placements were very interesting and provided valuable learning experiences. It was fascinating to see how physiotherapy is practiced in Belgium, as well as to learn more about Belgian culture.

Free time

In my free time, I explored nearby cities and visited various cafes, and also tried different restaurants- including, of course, Belgian fries. I also spent time with fellow exchange students and stayed active trough sports.

Comparison to Finland

Compared to Finland, I found that physiotherapy in Belgium is largely similar, although there are some minor differences. One notable difference is in the education system:in Belgium, in physiotherapy education is five-year university program, whereas in Finland it typically takes about 3.5 years to complete.
