Greetings from Seoul!
During my exchange semest
er in Soongsil University, I took Business Administration courses and courses such as East Asian Culture and Introduction to Asian Studies to fully emerge into the society of South Korea. The business courses I took were informative and I learned a lot about how South Korea has managed to economically grow so rapidly.
I felt the academic pressure what Korean students feel during exam periods. The library would be full from early in the morning all the way to 3am, this is something very different to how it is in Finland. Despite the academic pressure during exam periods, all my professors were great and taught me a lot and showed genuine care and respect to their students.
On my free time, I actively participated in group activities the school organised, where I got to make many Korean friends. I would also explore Seoul and other cities in South Korea such as Busan and Danyang. Some highlights from my time in South Korea would be paragliding, hiking, visiting Buddhist Temples, visiting palaces, museums, excellent restaurants and the spring festival Soongsil University organised with famous K pop groups such as, ILIT, Le Serrafim and Psy.
Despite being roughly 7 050 km away from home, I haven’t felt home sick. The locals managed to create a comfortable environment for foreigners despite the language barrier. I really have enjoyed studying in Soongsil University and this opportunity to get to explore Seoul in a once in a lifetime opportunity.
