Finnish culture is full of traditions that connect people with nature and each other. For me, two of the most meaningful ones are the sauna and ice swimming. They might seem simple, but together they reveal a lot about what it means to be Finnish.
The beauties and hardships of moving to Finland.
I truly don't believe that there is a clear indication of Finnishness in any particular lifestyle, as it can differ from person to person. I think anyone can define their own Finnishness themselves. There are some values though, that can probably be associated closely with Finns.
People usually associate Finnishness with rigidity, reservedness and aloofness - but that's not the whole truth, because even though many Finnish people need their own personal space, they can also be very helpful even to strangers. That can be seen for example in everyday life or in social media platforms, when people ask and receive help from strangers.
The most exhausting time in Finland as an international student are the long dark days in winter and spring, so how do the Finnish people cope ?
