Finnishness

For a person, who has grown up in a sunny and warm weather with a dense population, I found Finland is very calm and relaxed country. I moved to Finland six years ago. About 5,5 millions people living in Finland. Finns are quiet, friendly, and shy. People there respect each other and appreciate other’s privacies, and rights. In Finland, there is a meaningful support and freedom, which help you to achieve your dream successfully.

There are actual four seasons; starting from the winter, where the snow is covering the country with beautiful views and interesting entertainments including sauna and avanto (cold water), skating, sliding on the snow using pulkka (a plastic object where we sit on), etc.

Spring season is still cold, and the roads are covered with milted and dirty snow. Finnish summer is more than wonderful season than anywhere else. Even though, it is short and rainy, but the forests are so green and bushy, and the sky is colorful with beautiful mixed of colors. Riding a bike in the summertime around the city is the best way to get to know the city. There are about 200,000 lakes in Finland. Lakes and forest are my favorite spots, when I needed to be with myself or even with my friends.

Autumn in Finland is magical. When I was living in Iraq, I couldn’t see colorful leaves like in Finland specially, in Lapland in the north part. However, it wasn’t difficult for me to engage with the Finnish culture nor Finnish people since I act almost the same. In fact, I enjoyed and learnt a lot from the culture and the habits they practice in such a harsh weather.

The darkness in Finland can be hard time for everyone there, which last for several weeks starting from beginning of November until mid-December. Finns tried to adapt these circumstances by lightening the cities until the snow comes and brighten the views. Continuing with Christmas, which is perfect in Finland. I practiced my hobby as guitarist, and I have been able to travel around Finland performing in different festivals. In the end, if you haven’t been in Finland, You should visit there 🙂
