Finnishness

I am a proud Finn and it was difficult to choose the most special things about being Finnish. Here you can see what Finnishness means to me.

When you have been born and raised in Finland, Finnishness means a lot of things. All the things you don’t think about in your day-to-day life. I would say that we are so used to those beautiful and important things that we don’t notice them. To me couple of things popped up. These are water, peace and safety altogether and the seasons.

Always even on nice holidays I start to miss water in many aspects. Clean drinking water, clean lakes and rivers and just water everywhere. Clean drinking water is something so few people in the world get to enjoy. Here it tastes good and it’s only good to you without useless chemicals. Almost wherever you live in Finland you have lake or sea right next to you.

Peace and safety are things I haven’t even thought about before I was an adult. As a child you get to go outside alone or with your friends and nobody has to be afraid that something happens. As a woman you can move alone without fear in most of the places and as of my perspective crimes are rare. Peace is another thing. Here is so much nature that you can easily get to forests, fields or parks even from cities so you can enjoy the peace.

The seasons are the last thing that I want to bring up. It is so big wealth that I couldn’t even imagine living in country where there aren’t any season changes. I personally like cold snowy winters as much as hot and bright summers. When the nature wakes up after winter in spring and when it starts to change its colors in fall, it makes nice change to years and shows nature’s most beautiful sides.
