What Finnishness means to me
Finnishness for me personally comes from the people that live here in Finland. I enjoy telling my friends in other countries how “strange” we are. I think that people need to really spend time in Finland in order to truly understand how we behave. I remember when a picture from a finnish bus stop went viral on the internet. In that picture, finns were waiting for a bus while standing in a line two meters apart from one another. People from outside Finland were confused why we behaved this way, yet it is totally natural for us. Public saunas, on the other hand, are a whole different world. There us finns act entirely differently. Then, for us, being in close quarters with strangers and even in small spaces is totally normal.
I have a lot to be proud of as a Finn. For example having clean nature, good education and health care. From time to time I feel like we take these things for granted. As fun as it is to travel around the world I always feel good to come home.
