Finns have a special connection to nature. Forests and lakes are never far away, and spending time outdoors is part of daily life. Whether it’s skiing in the winter, or simply walking in the forest, nature offers peace and balance. For many Finns, nature is also a place for reflection, away from the rush of everyday life.

Finns are often described as honest and straightforward. Promises are kept, words are taken seriously, and silence is not uncomfortable. Another key element of Finnishness is sisu – a unique Finnish concept meaning inner strength, resilience, and persistence even when things get difficult. These values show in everyday life, from working hard to overcoming challenges in studies or sports.

For me, Finnishness is a combination of peacefulness, resilience, and community. It’s sitting quietly by a lake, enjoying the heat of a sauna after a long day, and knowing that even in silence, you are connected to others. Living in Finland has taught me to value simplicity, honesty, and the strength that comes from nature and tradition.
