I went to the Symposium on 13 November at Bar IHKU, and it was really nice!
When we entered, they stamped our hands and took our jackets and bags. I also got a cute patch, which felt like a fun souvenir from the event.

At first, the bar wasn’t very crowded, but it got busier as the night went on.

They organized some games such as a Kahoot New York quiz and a Bar circle game. I actually got third place in the NYC quiz!! It was my first time ever winning something on Kahoot, so I got really excited… although my friend helped me XD

There was also karaoke, so I sang “Love on top” by Beyonce. I was so happy because many friends enjoyed my singing, and I personally love performing, so it became one of my favorite moments of the night.
Overall, it was such a fun evening – games, music, and meeting new people. It felt like I got to experience a small but meaningful part of Finnish student culture. I realized that events like this help me feel more connected to the international community here.
We also learned some NYC slang through Kahoot quiz, which the game even more interesting:
Brick – very cold
color of NYC taxis – yellow
Bet – okay / deal / sure
No cap – No lie / I’m being honest
Yerrr – iconic NYC greeting (especially in the Bronx)
