5. Meeting Childhood

finding out why you should put dumplings and rice in soup

This meeting was awesome! We learned how to make Caribbean lentil soup with dumplings. It was different than what I expected, but in a positive way. The soup wasn’t thick like German lentil soup, it was more like a unpureed veggie soup. And the dumplings were totally new to me, kinda like Spätzle, and they were super quick to make. Our dumplings looked a bit funny, not as good as Nissa’s, but she helped me get the right consistency.

The dumplings are meant to make the soup more filling because it’s not just a starter, it’s a main dish. Nissa also told us we can eat the soup with rice, which I never thought about, but I love rice, so I might try it. Thanks for the awesome recipe! I’ve tried making it a few times since our meeting, but it never tastes as good as when Nissa made it.

Since time was short, we chatted about our other favorite childhood meals. We decided to make Pfannkuchen in the next meeting – my favorite childhood dish and still my go-to for special mornings or lazy sundays. Can’t wait!
