Meeting 10: Final Conversation and Reflection

10

Our last meeting felt quite special. We met in a café again, where we had our very first session, and decided to have a full conversation switching between Spanish and Finnish without using English. We talked about our daily routines, future plans, and funny cultural misunderstandings we experienced during the exchange.

I was genuinely proud of how much I could express in Finnish compared to the first day. I wasn’t fluent, of course, but I was able to keep the conversation going without panicking. Rajdeep also spoke Spanish with much more confidence, making fewer pauses and understanding more complex sentences.

Reflecting on this journey, I realised that language learning in a personal, collaborative setting is incredibly powerful. I didn’t just learn vocabulary; I gained cultural insights, made a friend, and improved my confidence in real-life situations.

The main challenge was still vocabulary gaps, sometimes I wanted to express something but didn’t know the words. But overall, we achieved almost all our goals. We followed the plan throughout the 10 sessions, though we allowed flexibility to adapt to our interests and needs. This made the process more enjoyable and authentic.
