This time we went to a local market to practise real-life conversations. Ilias practised asking for prices and buying food in Finnish, and I did the same in Spanish. I used sentences like “¿Cuánto cuesta?” and “Quisiera un kilo de manzanas, por favor,” which felt like real situations.
I noticed that my Spanish speaking confidence improved during this session. At first, I was nervous to use Spanish in a public space, but having Ilias beside me made it easier. Teaching Finnish in a real environment also made me think about how to explain phrases that are usually instinctive for me.
A new thing I learned today was how different politeness works in each language. Spanish uses many polite expressions, while Finnish tends to be more direct. It made me reflect on cultural communication styles.
The biggest difficulty was understanding native speakers when they spoke fast. I sometimes missed words and had to ask again. We followed the plan well, but we added more improvisation, which made the practice feel authentic.
