A Life of Exchange in Seoul: Adventures and Friendships in South Korea

When I embarked on my exchange program to South Korea, I could never have imagined the unforgettable experience that awaited me in Seoul. This exchange was not just about studying abroad; it was about life, culture, and the friendships I found on the other side of the world.

My Home in Seoul

During my exchange, I lived in an Airbnb conveniently located near my university. This choice not only eased my daily commute to school but also offered the opportunity to get to know other residents, from whom I gained long-term friends. I soon realized that this would be much more than just a place to sleep; it was a gateway to countless new friendships and experiences.

Cultural Encounters and Adventures

Every day in Seoul was an adventure. During my exchange, I explored numerous tourist attractions that offered a unique glimpse into Korean culture and history. However, the real adventures were found outside the university, in ordinary moments that made each day special.

Friendships and Nightlife

A significant part of Korean culture is the pocha, briefly called a street bar, which serves local delicacies and drinks. We spent several evenings at pochas, enjoying the warm atmosphere and delicious food that made the night unforgettable. Singing karaoke, shopping on bustling streets, and experiencing Seoul’s nightlife were just a few ways we spent time together.

The Joy of Travel

During my exchange year, not only did I become familiar with Seoul, but also with other parts of South Korea and even neighboring countries. Our trip to Busan, South Korea’s second-largest city, offered breathtaking views and new taste experiences. We also crossed borders and visited Japan, which opened the door to an entirely new culture and adventures.

Food, Culture, and History

The Korean cuisine is diverse and rich, and we took every opportunity to taste different foods. Museum visits and enjoying the bustling city of Seoul provided a deeper understanding of the country’s history and present day.

Returning Home

When my exchange ended, I left a piece of my heart in Seoul. I had experienced and learned more than I could ever have imagined. Seoul became my second home, a place that taught me new ways to see the world and appreciate friendships that last a lifetime.

I could resonate with the last part of this, I felt a pang in my heart when I was leaving my host country while I knew a part of me will forever belong there.
