Greetings from Vienna, Austria!

In this post I will be telling about my exchange semester in Austria's capital city Vienna!

I am doing my exchange semester in Vienna, Austria. My degree is in international business, and I am focusing my studies on human resources management. During my exchange semester I have picked courses in international human resources and marketing. I have also picked a German language course so I can practice my language skills.

My studies in Finland are also international and in English so that aspect hasn’t changed during my exchange. In Finland my courses don’t often have exams and we are graded by reports and presentations that are usually done in groups. In Austria, we are also doing a lot of group works and graded presentations, but we don’t have to write as many reports. Every course has an official exam that is done on paper, which is very different compared to Finland. Also, all of the courses in my Austrian school contain guest lecturers, which is a nice addition to the teaching.

In Finland I’m used to working alongside my studies, so it is different to just focus on studying during my exchange. In Finland it is very common to work while also being in student. However, in Austria students don’t usually work when they are doing their studies.

So, I am not working in Austria which leaves me with a lot more free time than in Finland. Also, the other exchange students are not working which means all my friends in Austria have a lot of free time. We often spend our free time together trying new restaurants, cafes, and touring new places. We have gone together to different museums, Christmas markets, and of course parties!

In my spare time I try to travel as much as possible. I have been to Bratislava, Budapest, and Prague during my exchange. In Austria, I have been to Gosau and went hiking in the Alps. Austria is a good exchange destination because of its’ central location!
