Studying business in Inseec BBA Lyon, France

I started my studies at Inseec BBA, a private university, which has campuses all over the world, for example, Lyon, Paris, London, and San Francisco, in February and I studied until the end of May, so my studies only lasted for 3,5 months, which was one of the reasons I chose this university since I didn’t want to spend too much time abroad. Courses and teaching were pretty much just like in TAMK, but the classes were always in the afternoon. My studies were in English, but there was an option for doing the semester in French too.

Lyon is a good-sized city in my opinion, not too big like Paris but bigger than Tampere. It is the second-largest metropolitan area in France. It offers a lot of things to do and see. The restaurants and bars are great, and Lyon is referred to as the gastronomic capital of the world. The student life differs from Finnish student culture, there aren’t any bar crawl-type of events. There was an Erasmus meeting event in a bar usually once a week on Tuesdays and a bigger party once a month. Our school arranged a trip to Paris Disney Land for our orientation and our university’s exchange student union arranged one trip to the alps.

The location of Lyon is great for exchange because it’s only 2 hours by train from Paris, 4 hours from French Riviera, and 2 hours from the Alps. There are also nice smaller destinations nearby where you can take a bus, like Annecy and Grenoble in France and Geneve in Switzerland. The biggest trip we did was a French Riviera trip with some friends, which was easy to do from Lyon and not expensive at all, we visited every main place on Riviera and stayed in Nice.

Studying culture was pretty much the same in this university and TAMK, no one ever said I can’t do this and this because I need to study, we didn’t have any homework, but we had some group works that we had to do in our own time. We had to attend the classes, but they were pretty much the same difficulty level as in TAMK. Local students are paying 10 000 euros for one year of study, but they don’t really care about studying at all.
