Finnishness

I feel most Finnish when I am at our grandparents’ cottage in the middle of a forest and going skinny-dipping straight from the sauna. I am not a huge fan of a sauna but a cottage sauna heated with wood is just a special experience. The smell, feeling, and crisping sound of burning wood and flames make it special.

Even though I don’t like winter, I can’t lie, it is quite beautiful. Finnish nature is just exceptional and I truly understand why tourists want to visit Finland. Even though Finnish nature is looking magical in the winter, in my opinion, summer is even more beautiful.

It’s nice to go abroad and be reminded of the good little things in Finland for example rye bread, Oltermanni cheese, and Finnish tap water. In my opinion, they taste better if you have been gone for a long time for example when I was aupairing in Spain for a month and came back in the middle of the night I just had to get rye bread, oltermanni, and Finnish tap water. (Weird craving I know right.)
