Finnish culture is often associated with values such as honesty, modesty and perseverance. I believe the reason Finns are considered the “happiest” people is because we are more content than most other cultures, life is made relatively easy and safe in Finland thanks to the welfare state.
Finns may appear quiet or reserved when meeting new people, but this does not necessarily mean they are unfriendly. Personal space and privacy are greatly valued, and long moments of silence can be comfortable rather than awkward and usually after alcohol Finns become noticeably more sociable and open up more.
Finns also often appreciate being practical and straightforward. Instead of making a big display of success, people don’t usually like to flaunt about much and let their actions speak for themselves.
Nature is an important part of Finnish life. Forests, lakes, changing seasons and short summers emphasize enjoying the weather to the fullest while it’s still good. Going to a Summer cottage is in my opinion a must in Finland during summer, to simply be away from routines and problems of everyday life and enjoy nature.
