Finnishness - nature and sauna

Few things about Finnish nature and of course about the sauna.

First thing that comes in to mind when I think about Finnishness and Finland is the breath taking nature we have. That is because 73 precent of Finland is covered in forests and here is also over 50 000 lakes. Nature is a big part of Finnish culture because we put so much effort to keeping our nature healthy and beautiful. Thanks to the four seasons, we can see different changes in our nature during the year. Autumn for example is a beautiful time in Finland because we get to see how the leaves of the trees change color. This is called the “ruska” season. Also I need to mention the northern lights which you can see in the Lapland at winter.

Sauna in Finland is an inseparable part of everyday life and an important part of the Finnish culture. It is almost hard to find a house in Finland that doesn’t have a sauna. Also a big part of the sauna culture is cottages. Many people in Finland have their own cottages where they like to spend time and go to sauna. Funny thing about the sauna culture in Finland is that Finnish people are often really private and shy but still we can go to sauna naked with complete strangers.
