Erja Sipilä kertoo tiedekunnan tohtoriohjelmakokonaisuudesta. Taustatietona, että osana Tampereen yliopiston tohtoriohjelmien kehittämistyötä tiedekuntia on ohjeistettu käymään keskustelu tiedekunnan tohtoriohjelmien määrästä ja perustella näkemyksensä. Kehittämistyön taustalla on erityisesti TAU RAE -arvioinnin tulokset ja OKM:n ns. 3-vuotisen tohtorikoulutuspilotin suunnitelmat. TAU RAE -arvioinnissa kiinnitettiin huomiota muun muassa Tampereen yliopiston tohtoriohjelmien määrään. Tampereen yliopisto ei ole linjannut, että tohtoriohjelmien määrää tulisi vähentää, mutta yhdistämistä on kuitenkin hyvä tarkastella osana opetussuunnitelmatyötä. Erja Sipilä kertoi, että tohtoriohjelmien kanssa on keskusteltu, ja muutoksille ei ole niiden keskustelujen perusteella tarvetta. Tiedekunnassa toimii tällä hetkellä seuraavat tohtoriohjelmat:
- Kielten tohtoriohjelma
- Media- ja viestintätutkimuksen ja esittävien taiteiden tohtoriohjelma
- Ihmiset ja teknologiat -tohtoriohjelma
- Tieto- ja sähkötekniikan tohtoriohjelma
- A-WEAR (European Joint Doctorate)
- PLENOPTIMA (European Joint Doctorate)
Näistä tohtoriohjelmista A-WEAR ja PLENOPTIMA ovat määräaikaisia hankkeita, eikä niihin ole enää sisäänottoa.
Informaatioteknologian ja viestinnän tiedekunta on jo oma-aloitteisesti vähentänyt tohtoriohjelmiensa määrää. Johtoryhmä katsoo, että tohtoriohjelmien toiminnan kannalta nykyisten tohtoriohjelmien yhdistäminen ei ole mielekästä, koska niiden edustamat tutkimusalat ovat varsin etäällä toisistaan. Opiskelijoiden oikeusturvan kannalta on tarpeellista, että tohtoriohjelmien suunnitteluryhmät ovat sopivan kokoisia siten, että ne koostuvat heidän tutkimusalaansa tuntevista jäsenistä. Nykyisten tohtoriohjelmien tohtoriohjelmavastaavien mukaan tohtoriohjelmat ovat nykyisellään sopivan kokoisia ja hyvin toimivia.

Erja Sipilä tells about the faculty’s doctoral program. As background information, as part of Tampere University’s doctoral program development work, the faculties have been instructed to have a discussion about the number of doctoral programs in the faculty and justify their views. The background of the development work is especially the results of the TAU RAE evaluation and OKM’s so-called Plans for a 3-year doctoral training pilot. In the TAU RAE evaluation, attention was paid to, among other things, the number of doctoral programs at the University of Tampere. The University of Tampere has not ruled that the number of doctoral programs should be reduced, but it is still good to consider merging as part of curriculum work. Erja Sipilä said that there have been discussions with the doctoral programs, and based on the discussions, there is no need for changes.
The faculty currently operates the following doctoral programs:

Of these doctoral programs, A-WEAR and PLENOPTIMA are temporary projects, and there are no more admissions for them.
The Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences has already reduced the number of doctoral programs on its own initiative. The management team considers that, in terms of the operation of the doctoral programs, it is not meaningful to combine the current doctoral programs, because the research fields they represent are quite far from each other. From the point of view of students’ legal protection, it is necessary that the planning groups for doctoral programs are of a suitable size, so that they consist of members familiar with their field of research. According to the doctoral program supervisors of the current doctoral programs, the doctoral programs are currently of a suitable size and function well.
