7. Meeting: Christmas

Festive delights and Christmas traditions!

Tampere has been in the Christmas spirit for weeks now, which is great. Since Christmas is celebrated differently in the Caribbean and in Germany, we dedicated a whole meeting to the holiday spirit.

The highlight? Baking Christmas cookies, or “Plätzchen” as we call them in Germany. I think Nissa was quite surprised that they had almost no spices in them, just a bit of salt (& sugar of course), but that’s the way I’ve always known them. To make them even more special, we borrowed the cutest Moomin cookie cutters ever.

Nissa took on the role of DJ and filled the room with Caribbean Christmas music. Let me tell you, it’s much more lively and upbeat than what we’re used to. The beats got Nissa dancing and spreading happiness around the room. It was infectious.

We also had a heart-warming conversation about our Christmas traditions. Despite cultural differences, one thing we all share is the joy of spending time with family and close friends during the holiday season. Interestingly, in the Caribbean they have to wait until the morning of the 25th to open presents.

And imagine this, even though it’s warm there in the winter, people still decorate their homes with reindeer decorations. Well, that’s quite funny and shows how traditions can travel across borders.
