Our eight meeting was at an ice hockey match between Tappara and Kärpät. Since it has worked well for us in the past, we didn’t really plan what we were going to discuss ahead of time. It was loud during the game which made hearing each other difficult but we still managed to have a decent conversation.
I tried teaching Marina the rules of hockey and translated some of the things the announcer said during the game. I hope she wasn’t too confused about what was going on. The conversation naturally flowed to popular sports in our countries. We talked about ice hockey, football, field hockey, and Finnish baseball.
We also discussed how different the winter looks in our countries. We also noted that there the way snow and ice are handled in Finland and in Spain is quite different. It’s logical that there is more of a need for ways to maintain roads and ensure that drivers know how to drive in icy conditions in Finland.
It felt logical to review numbers during the game because the announcer was constantly calling out player numbers. Marina has gotten quite good at remembering the numbers.
