For our 8th meeting we went to the supermarket. We went to the LIDL in Tampere nearby the train station. We went through the supermarket, and we spoke about the differences between the grocery prices in Germany and The Netherlands. In Germany they also have an inflation. Some foods costs twice as much now. If you want to do cheaper grocerys you should go to Aldi and Lidl. The most expensive supermarkets are the organic markets and Edeka. Penny and Rewe are more in the middle price segment they told us.
We told them its the same with the inflation in The Netherlands. The prices are still rising. The most expensive supermarket is called Albert Heijn. The Jumbo and Hoogvliet are middle range and then (like Germany) the Aldi and Lidl are the cheapest ones.
Words
We learned some words from the fruit and vegetables department of the supermarket.
English: Dutch: German:
Banana Banaan Banane
Apple Appel Apfel
Mandarin Mandarijn Mandarine
Pear Peer Birne
Zucchini Courgette Zucchini
Leeks Prei Lauch
Eggplant Aubergine Aubergine
I think it is great how a lot of words are similar in the languages (so I can remember them more easily). There are also words I didn’t know like the pear, zucchini, and leeks. I will try to remember them next time I am at Lidl!
