Chinese culture-2

Today is our seventh meeting. Since we are in different grades and have heavy tasks and it is difficult to coordinate our time, we once again adopted the method of meeting online. However, on the other hand, this has also effectively honed our virtual working skills, which is also a very good experience.

This week we continue to discuss culture, but this time we mainly focus on introducing Chinese culture. The previous lesson talked about China’s important traditional festivals and solar terms that everyone participates in from the beginning of the year to May. In particular, China’s 24 solar terms are particularly famous. It mainly tells how farmers in farming culture use solar terms to determine sowing, fertilizing, harvesting, and the growth characteristics of different grains in different seasons.

This lesson introduces everything from Chinese Valentine’s Day to Mid-Autumn Festival, Double Ninth Festival, National Day and the end of the year, which is the New Year’s Eve that Chinese people value most. In fact, both the Mid-Autumn Festival and New Year’s Eve are about reunion, but because New Year’s Eve represents the end of a year’s work, people often get together with relatives and friends in a more relaxed setting. During these few days of the Spring Festival, people can really relax completely and not turn on the computer or work at all. And partners from other countries in the world can also understand very well the importance that Chinese people attach to the Spring Festival.

In addition to festivals, of course we have to talk about food, because festivals are about getting together, and the happiest thing for people to get together is to eat a delicious and sumptuous traditional meal together. My friend said that her favorite thing and what she wants to try most are dumplings. I hope she will have the opportunity to go to China one day and taste the most authentic dumplings.
