Finnishness

Being Finnish for me is not just about where I come from, but about the feelings and values I experience in everyday life.

To me, Finnishness means peacefulness and the ability to find calmness in simple things.
One of the clearest symbols of Finnishness for me is the sauna. Sitting in the warm steam, letting go of stress, and then cooling down outside or by a lake makes me feel deeply connected to my roots.

I also feel most connected to my Finnish identity when I am surrounded by forests, lakes, and the quietness they bring. Being near water gives me a sense of balance and clarity, as if time slows down and I can truly relax.

Finnish summers are especially magical. The long days and bright evenings create a calm, warm, and lively atmosphere. Sitting by a lake or walking in the soft summer light makes me feel peaceful and proud of where I come from.

Finally, I think Finnishness also comes with a natural perseverance. Spending time in nature teaches patience, resilience, and the quiet strength to keep going, even in difficult times.
