Finnishness

Finnish nature

Finnishness means a lot to Finnish people and often we are proud of it. We have our own traditions, celebrations, and things that unite us. Not forgetting our beautiful nature and the joy and peace it gives.  Although Finns may appear quiet and inward-looking to others, we have many things in common.

Finnish nature appears magnificent in each of its four different seasons. In winter we can enjoy the frost and the amount of snow, while in the summer, the warmth and the lakes. On different seasons we have our different ways of enjoying it the best. In Finland, closeness to the nature is a big part of many people’s lives, it brings peace during everyday life. Cottage life and sauna are for many of us, a way to relax and spend time with loved ones. The sauna plays a big role for Finns, and we are also proud of it. For many, sauna is the first thing that comes to mind about Finland, as it is such a big part of our culture.

Finnishness

Finnishness often appears to others, especially as an appreciation of nature, a quiet but reliable lifestyle, an emphasis on equality, and traditions. I personally feel that I can identify with these thoughts about being Finnish. I’m proud to be Finnish and I want to take a positive image of Finnishness to other countries and cultures.
