Finnishness, sauna and nature

Some thoughts about finnishness, finnish nature and sauna

Finnishness is a lot of things. It is for example sauna and nature. It is also love, kindness and honesty.

I think Finnishness is something to be proud of. Finnish people are mostly good hearted and kind people. We respect and help each other. We believe in being honest. We have beautiful and diverse nature and we are lucky to have four different seasons during a year. We have better healthcare system than most of countries in the world and we are worth our reputation.

Sauna evokes feelings. It is no wonder that people find sauna a bit weird when talking about Finnish culture. Finnish people are considered quiet and a little bit “anti-social”. However we go to sauna naked with unfamiliar people. And if we are lucky, we do not need to talk with those people in the sauna with us.

Finnish nature is amazing. In the winter you can ice-skate on a lake, ski or even hop on a sled. In the spring you can hear birds singing and enjoy daylight lengthen. In the summer you can go to swimming, hike and buy strawberries from the market. By market I mean a stand outside. In the autumn leaves start falling and chantarelles peep from moss in the forests. Our environment changes and we get to do and experience all these things in a year. Finnish people respect nature and nature is a part of finnish peoples everyday life.
