User Experience in Robotics presentation and demo session
It was an exciting Friday morning, 10th of December, 2021. User Experience in Robotics (UXRO) course presentation and demo session was about to start. The presentation session is the diamond of the the course, as we are all able to see and experience the work conducted in the course. This year, we organized this session in a hybrid mode, which caused a little bit of hassle with all the involved technologies.
Tietojenkäsittelyn ja tietotekniikan uusi kandiseminaari
Syyskuussa 2021 käynnistyi ensimmäinen tietojenkäsittelytieteiden ja tietotekniikan yhteinen kandiseminaari. Seminaarin yhdistämisen tavoitteena on löytää opiskelijoiden kandidaatintyöaiheiden asiantuntija kunkin pienryhmän ohjaajaksi ja tarjota vertaisryhmä, jossa töiden aiheet tukevat toisiaan. Ohjauksen laatu ja ohjaajien määrä saadaan paremmaksi yhdistämällä voimia keskustakampukselta ja tietotekniikasta.
Digital Storytelling in Psychology in Human-Technology Interaction course
Already for the second time, we had an assignment about Digital Storytelling in the course called Psychology in Human-Technology Interaction. Last year, this assignment was very successful, producing 64 digital stories made by the students. This year, we got 79 stories, and I was very amazed of the quality of them. The students of this course are indeed amazing storytellers, and they have done it in a very creative and personal ways. Enjoy the stories!
Human-Technology Interaction Get-together in nature
The past Monday, 11.10.2021, a group of enthusiastic students and teachers from the international HTI study program gathered to share some time in nature in the beautiful area of Arboretum, Hatanpää in Tampere. An exciting experience where many students met physically for the first time after more than a year of virtual lectures. Now that little by little, restrictions are becoming more flexible, and what we know as "normal" life is coming back. We had fun introducing ourselves using gestures that represent us. We practiced mindful photography in groups and learned about the area's history while enjoying the autumn colors. Thanks for everybody for making this as an event to be remembered!
Computing Sciences at the annual SEFI conference
The teachers and researchers from CS attended SEFI 2021 conference “Blended Learning in Engineering Education: challenging, enlightening – and lasting?” held remotely due to the covid pandemic. Four papers from Computing Sciences were presented covering topics from ethics, learning path visualization, automatic grading and educating web developers - a strong representation of several aspects of computing education.
Kohti omaa kotirobottia – kahdeksasluokkalaiset LUMATE-valinnaisessa
Pikkolan koulun 8. luokkalaisten LUMATE-valinnaisaineen tunneilla vieraili syyskuussa sosiaalinen Alphamini-robotti Tampereen yliopiston lehtorin Aino Ahtisen avustamana.
How is the primary school pupil's robotic experience? A 3-month user study at Tammela school.
The programming flexibility allows social robots to be tailored for different academic goals and interaction preferences. Needless to say, integrating social robots in the curriculum is one of the most novel yet popular teaching methods these years.

AI Hub pilot with Trialwell: Usability evaluation of the Trialwell web platform to recruit participants for clinical and non-clinical trials
Trialwell supports researches by recruiting appropriate participants. AI Hub conducted a pilot study with Trialwell to evaluate their webservice with potential participants. The mission of AI Hub is to provide Aritifical Intelligence (AI) related guidance for small and medium sized companies (SMEs) free of charge. Since Trialwell will use AI to match participants’ profile with appropriate research trial, AI Hub agreed to conduct a pilot project to evaluate the usability and usefulness of the system.
