From September 16th to 18th, 2025, the serene surroundings of Hotel Gut Klostermühle in Alt Madlitz, Germany, provided the perfect backdrop for the kick-off meeting of the REAVES – Resilient Ecosystems for AV&M Entrepreneurial Support project. This gathering brought together project managers, researchers, and creative industry professionals from across the Baltic Sea Region and beyond, united by a shared vision: to strengthen the creative and cultural industries (CCI) through cross-sectoral collaboration and innovation.

Bridging Silos in the Creative and Cultural Industries

The CCI is often described as a single sector, yet its sub-sectors—ranging from opera houses to popular music bands—differ greatly in their structures and challenges. These differences have historically led to siloed approaches, with organizations tackling similar issues in isolation. REAVES aims to break down these barriers by connecting projects from the film, music, and gaming industries, fostering a collaborative environment where emerging creative talent can thrive with the support of technology and entrepreneurial guidance.

The REAVES Platform: Collaboration for Resilience

At the heart of REAVES is a commitment to collaboration. By aligning objectives and pooling resources, participating projects can address shared challenges more effectively and enhance support from public authorities. The platform’s cross-regional and cross-sectoral approach is designed to retain talent, drive innovation, and ensure the long-term sustainability of the CCI—both locally and globally.

The partnership comprises 22 projects, including Interreg BSR, Creative Europe, Horizon, and Norway Grant initiatives, represented by 14 core partners and a broad network of associate partners. The consortium’s expertise spans public authorities, higher education institutions, business support organizations, SMEs, and interest groups, ensuring comprehensive coverage from education and mentoring to policy and investment strategies.

Highlights from the Kick-off Meeting

The event opened with an introduction to the REAVES project by Christine Sauter, Project Manager at BGZ Berliner Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit mbH. Participants engaged in interactive workshops using the MIRO co-creation platform, brainstorming ways to bridge the film, music, and gaming sectors and sharing lessons learned from ongoing and completed projects. The collaborative spirit was palpable, with over 20 projects and organizations exchanging best practices and exploring new opportunities for partnership.

The unique setting of Gut Klostermühle—a nature resort and spa nestled by Lake Madlitz—fostered a sense of community and creativity. The combination of inspiring surroundings and dedicated professionals made for a memorable and productive start to the REAVES journey.

The Playbook: A Roadmap for Regional Support

TAMK, in collaboration with Novia University of Applied Sciences, is responsible for developing the REAVES Playbook. This living document will compile strategies, methods, and best practices for supporting the audiovisual and music (AV&M) landscape across regions. Drawing on input from the triple, quadruple, and quintuple helix stakeholders, the Playbook will provide a flexible roadmap that regions can adapt to their specific contexts, supporting skills development, community building, sustainability, and public engagement.

Looking Ahead

The REAVES kick-off meeting set the tone for a project defined by openness, innovation, and cross-sectoral learning. As the consortium moves forward, the focus will remain on building resilient ecosystems that empower creative talent and foster sustainable growth in the CCI. The lessons and connections forged at Gut Klostermühle will serve as a foundation for ongoing collaboration and impact.
