The aim of the training was to strengthen the preparedness of staff and students to act safely and consistently in both everyday situations and exceptional circumstances within the educational environment.
What did the training cover?
The training combined theory with hands-on practice:
-
Safety in an educational environment
Building an overall understanding of potential threats and risks in a campus setting. -
Risk management and situational awareness
Recognizing risks early and acting proactively. -
Indoor protective actions (lockdown situations)
Clear procedures for situations requiring rapid protective measures. -
Communication and body language under stress
Maintaining clear communication and a calm presence in critical situations. -
Legal self-defense and necessity (emergency situations)
Understanding the legal framework and appropriate actions in rapidly evolving situations. -
Simulation exercises
Practical scenarios that allowed participants to apply their skills in realistic situations.
Why is this important?
Security situations are rarely predictable. What matters most is:
- the ability to act quickly and appropriately
- awareness of the environment and people
- clear communication under pressure
The training especially strengthened situational awareness and confidence in action, both of which are essential for the safety of the entire TAMK community.
Looking ahead
This training is part of a broader effort to systematically develop safety competencies. The goal is to ensure that key safety skills are not limited to individual training sessions but become embedded in everyday practices – as shared competence across both staff and students.
