Nordic Star 2024 double edition!

This summer for a third time we had a pleasure to welcome German students from Munich University of Applied Sciences (Hochschule München) Master Programme to participate in enriching summer school from “Nordic Star” intensive training organised by Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) in Finland. For the very first time the Nordic Star programme was organised for bachelor level students as well. The pilot was successful, and we are looking forward to the next edition in 2025!

Succeed in Business – opportunities, internationality and expertise for young adults' entrepreneurial dreams

Tampere University of Applied Sciences' Succeed in Business project aimed at young people aged 18–25 in the Pirkanmaa Region interested in entrepreneurship to participate in international training that strengthens networking and competence. The Awareness Rising Conference organised at TAMK was attended by 22 participants. I was particularly pleased with the young people's sociability and openness to talk to each other and share experiences and questions about entrepreneurship right from the start.

A new chapter for Tehdassaari island: environmental, social, and governance (ESG) at the heart of Nokia factory’s redevelopment

As part of my labour market training in International Business and Logistics at Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK), I had the opportunity to intern at Cireco Finland Oy from March to May, 2024. This hands-on experience allowed me to apply my academic knowledge in a real-world setting, specifically focusing on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in industrial redevelopment.

Finnish Pedagogy in Santiago de Chile

Pedagogy experts from TAMK, Mikko Turunen and Henri Annala, gave Chilean teachers an intensive training week on Finnish pedagogy and teaching methods. The week was arranged as part of the Play and Learn project funded by the Government of Santiago and Fundación Entrepeneur on the 27th – 31st of May, 2024.

Learning both ways – ECEC Training in Handan Preschool Teachers College, China

International collaboration opens up unique experiences to expand one’s knowledge and competences. Two senior lecturers from Degree Program of Bachelor of Social Services organized one week training for the teachers at Handan Preschool Teachers College (HPTC). They were prepared to share a lot about Finnish Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) and about the pedagogy of Degree Program of Social Services, but after the training wondered if it was them who learnt the most. It was proven once again that getting familiar with different educational systems in different countries provokes questions and critical thinking. But most of all it challenges yourself to understand your own system in deeper way.

Reflections on sustainability developments in Finland and Canada: Insights from the SUSTAFIT research project

I recently had the opportunity, as part of the SUSTAFIT research project, to conduct a research visit to Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) in Toronto, Canada. This visit was generously hosted by my esteemed colleague, Associate Professor Karen Peesker. Karen and I first met in 2014 at the Global Sales and Science Institute's Conference while both of us were concluding our PhD theses on sales leadership. Our mutual passion for understanding how to lead sales in today’s uncertain environments has continued to be a strong bond between us.

Students' study trip offered valuable insights into the practical applications and ethical implications of AI

In the beginning of June 2024, a selected group of students from TAMK’s Master’s Programme in International Business Management (23YIBM) participated in a study trip to Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences in Mönchengladbach, Germany. This event marked the highlight of a blended international course focused on Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

‘Competence equals Capacity’– Cross-border collaboration to support growth of AV companies

The audiovisual (AV) sector, particularly the Film and TV Industry in Finland and Sweden, faces challenges in growth due to a lack of local, regional, and national production resources. This includes staff, teams, skills, equipment, facilities, and international networks. To address these challenges, a cross-border collaboration between Finland, Sweden, Estonia, and Latvia entitled Growth for FINSWE Film and TV Companies (AV–Growth ) will run from 2024 to 2027.

BioHub Annual Magazine and TAMK’s Bioproduct Engineering students Excursion to China

Internationality is one of the key strategies of Tampere University of Applied Sciences, and it is also deeply embedded in degree education. TAMK’s degree programme in Bioproduct Engineering provides annual course of “Publication and Study Excursion” for its degree students, and in the past over 20 years, students of TAMK have visited industries all over the world, and in March 2024, the course has brought 11 TAMK students to China.

Embracing AI and Sustainability: Insights from the latest LOGY 2024 Conference

LOGY, the Finnish Association of Purchasing and Logistics, is a professional organization that brings together experts and companies involved in sourcing, logistics and materials management. Established in 1938, LOGY provides its members with training seminars, industry news, and networking opportunities, including the annual LOGY Conference which features both domestic and international speakers from various sectors related to logistics and supply chain management. As part of SPOTLOG project co-funded by Interreg Europe Programme, TAMK’s team attended the LOGY Conference in Helsinki 2024.

EU 4 Inclusive Education project strives for sustainable policy impact – Finnish expertise on special education supports developing national resource centers in Albania.

For the past two years, the Tampere University of Applied Sciences has collaborated closely with the Albanian public sector, schools and third sector within the framework of the ‘EU 4 Inclusive Teaching’ project. A joint Training-of-the-Trainer -programme, designed and delivered together with TAMK and Tampere University (Faculty of Education and Culture), has provided pedagogical support so far to almost 300 Albanian teachers.

Finnish Delegation at IDB Event: Collaborative Efforts for Education Reform in Latin America and the Caribbean

In the picturesque setting of Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, from 6 to 10 March 2024, the Barceló Bávaro Convention Center played host to a significant gathering of minds focused on education reform in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). Among the delegates were Sanna Ruhalahti and Virpi Heinonen from Tampere University of Appled Sciences (TAMK), representing Finland alongside a delegation comprising authorities, companies, and education sector participants. Their presence marked Finland's commitment to collaborating with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and its affiliates to address pressing challenges in education across the region.

Sustainable Fibres and Polymers for Nonwovens: Paving the Way to a Greener Future

As environmental concerns are becoming increasingly important, more and more industries are prompted to seek sustainable solutions to minimize their environmental impact. An example of such industry is the nonwoven sector, which is known for its wide range of applications, from hygiene products to automotive and construction materials. The nonwoven sector is gradually adopting sustainable fibres and polymers to replace traditional petroleum-based raw materials that take thousands of years to degrade and pose a threat to the environment and human health when they end up in landfills or marine environments.

Super Coaches League

This is a short story about the transformation from teacher to team coach from TAMK Global services to our Chilean counter partner Fundación Chile. This process was delivered by Cristian Burr Raty from TAMK HUBS, a Chilean team coach and Hanna Saraketo, TAMK´s experienced senior Team Coach from Proakatemia. This story describes some of the situations and emotions during the week-long training through the eyes of Hanna and Cristian.

Qualitative improvement for teacher education in Rwanda

The Higher Education Pedagogies for Teacher Education (HEP-TED) project has been granted a significant 1.1 million euros in funding from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. The project, launched in January 2024, aims to develop, and strengthen the capacity of Rwandan higher education institutions and it contributes to sustainable development through quality teacher education for general education, and technical and vocational education and training (TVET).

Capacity building to support circular economy business in Namibia

The need for the development of circular economy (CE) in Namibia is obvious based on both economic, environmental, and social sustainability. At the beginning of November 2023 started a joint project with TAMK and Tampere University aiming at the capacity building of circular economy in Namibia. The project, funded by Finnpartnership, supports the feasibility study of a Finnish company. The project started intensively with a trip to Windhoek, the capital city of Namibia.

Co-Write week in The Academy of Popular Culture in the Netherlands

Recently, TAMK Music production students took part to a Blended Intensive Learning program organised by Academy of Pop Culture/Hanze University that aims to enhance the learning experience of students by combining online and offline learning. The program was designed for a group of 28 students from multicultural backgrounds, including Belgium, Finland, and the Netherlands, with diverse musical backgrounds.
