Student experience about Finland: Foreign friends visiting

Being a foreigner in Finland can be a unique experience, as Finland has a distinct culture and way of life that may be different from what you are used to. However, Finland is known for being a safe and stable country with a high standard of living, which can make it an attractive place to live, study, work or visit. It has been said that one of the biggest challenges of being a foreigner in Finland can be the language barrier. However, most Finns speak English fluently, so communication is usually not a problem. But, how to cope with the weather and other culture shocks?

Teacher exchange in Albania was worth it

Mari Laaksonen, Senior Lecturer of Social Services and Health Care and Arja Halkoaho, Principal Lecturer of Social Services and Health Care from Tampere University of Applied Sciences took part in one weeklong teacher exchange in Albania in April. The teacher exchange was conducted by the universities' health sciences departments. The trip was a wonderful experience and emphasised the importance of cooperation.

What does an international university of applied sciences mean?

According to TAMK's strategy, we want to be the most international university of applied sciences. We are increasing our internationality by, for example, increasing our English-language training offering, focusing on international marketing and changing our recruitment principles. These means of internationalisation aim to ensure that TAMK has more international students and staff. For me, the superlative at the heart of TAMK's strategy means ambition of the goal, but also a variety of methods abroad and in Finland.

When all doors are closed, you can find an open window somewhere

About a year and a half ago, TAMK started a cooperation project with the South Italian University of Salerno. The multiphase process with negotiations and visits eventually led to beginning of cooperation with the Department of Management & Innovation Systems’ 3CLAB laboratory. The laboratory aims at supporting local and international organisations in different phases of internationalisation by producing education, research and services in the field of cross-cultural competence.

Six months deep

Four weeks ago I came back from Spain and I found my new house covered in white. Tampere had been completely taken by winter and I couldn’t believe how beautiful the city and the forest were.

Walking in Tampere

Last year I made a decision that surprised myself. Going to Tampere for an exchange study. There is a voice in my heart that keeps screaming: go outside and take a look. Now I have been in Finland for nearly half month, let me talk about what I have experienced.

"Exchange period granted me many life changing experiences"

People often say exchange is the best time of their academic year, when everything is brand new, you were rejuvenated and feel like a freshman again. My experience was a bit different, though. My 4 months in Japan was not necessary the best time of my life but had granted me many life changing experiences.
